Denton County proclaims October 2025 Archaeology Month; county museum highlights programs

At its Oct. 28 meeting, the Denton County Commissioners Court read and approved a proclamation recognizing October 2025 as Denton County Archaeology Month.
Kelsey, representing the Denton County Office of History and Culture and the Denton County Historical Commission, and Gary Hayden, archaeology chair, described planned public events including the Denton Dig It Archaeology Fair at the Historic Park. Hayden said the fair will include demonstrations such as flintknapping, a geophysical archaeology exhibit and a sandbox dig for children, and noted the event is expected to be larger than prior years.
The proclamation cites Texas Archaeology Month presented by the Texas Historical Commission and notes the Denton County Courthouse Museum is authorized under the state curatorial facility certification program to house archaeological items found on public lands and owned by the state of Texas.
The court voted unanimously to adopt the proclamation and commissioners encouraged public participation in the November 1 events and related educational activities.
