The Boone County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 1 unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Crystal Jones as the county's health officer. The appointment covers Dec. 1, 2025, through Nov. 30, 2029, and was recommended by the local Board of Health.
Abby, the county's environmental director in the Health Department, presented the first reading of Ordinance 2025-16, an updated food ordinance the department said had not been revised in roughly 10 years. Abby said the updated ordinance aligns Boone County's rules with recent state code changes and includes local policy adjustments; the draft highlights changes for review. Because this was a first reading, no action was taken on the ordinance Dec. 1.
Commissioners also accepted bonds and letters of credit related to private development and approved health-clinic contract timing (tabling the clinic contract pending final documents). The board heard expressions of appreciation from Health Department staff and introductions of new personnel who will begin in January.
