Commissioners approved a Brownfield plan amendment for 125 Ottawa to permit rehabilitation work that converts floors 2–4 of an existing office building into 36 residential apartments.

Economic development staff said the project represents a second downtown office-to-residential conversion for developer Sam Cummings and enables submission of an Act 381 work plan to the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA). The Brownfield Redevelopment Authority is expected to support the work plan before it is submitted.

The commission approved the amendment and the item will return for related neighborhood enterprise zone and next-step approvals at the following commission meeting.
