The commission approved an agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation for reconstruction work on Martin Luther King Jr. Street over US-131 and CSX and Grand Elk railroads and authorized a $1,413,100 local-share payment.

Project staff said MDOT will bid the project in its upcoming monthly bid letting, and the work extends from the east side of the on- and off-ramps to just west of Ionia Avenue. The city previously approved easements, railroad agreements and a noise-variance request. Staff noted sidewalks will be 10 feet wide on both sides, with the sidewalk portion funded by the city's major streets fund.

The item passed with general support; staff said some nighttime concrete pours are anticipated and that MDOT had requested a noise variance to accommodate the work.
