Montgomery County Council opened its Dec. 2 session by recognizing Harmony Express with a formal proclamation and a two‑song performance.
Council Member Glass introduced the chorus and invited members to the dais. After Harmony Express performed a traditional polecat piece and a holiday song, the chorus’ members—identified during the meeting as Leo Wormers, Dave Roos, David Blass, Doug Smith, Katie Ritterman, Diane Dowling, Bill Merritt and Nancy McMahon Ferraro—briefly described the group’s outreach work at senior centers, rec centers, churches and schools and said they had recent appearances planned at the Rio and at local senior communities.
“I first saw them in action last year when I was walking around in Gaithersburg,” Council Member Glass said, introducing the proclamation and thanking the chorus for bringing “joy and light” to the community.
The proclamation, read by a council designee, recognized Harmony Express’s founding in 2008 and its role ‘‘preserving and promoting the uniquely American art form of barbershop harmony’’ through performances at civic events, schools, festivals and senior centers. Council members thanked the group for its service and encouraged residents to attend upcoming performances.
The ceremony concluded as the Council moved on to general business.
