During the executive director's report, Jason Campbell described a recent controlled-demolition or "hot demolition" training near Sankey Road. He said the property, purchased by an entity identified in the transcript as "Safeco," was used for a controlled burn exercise that allowed fire academy cadets to practice live-structure operations.
"The house was set up so that we can do a controlled burn with some fire academy students," Campbell said, and credited the Pleasant Grove fire academy and other local departments for collaborating on the exercise. He added that UC Davis indicated this was the first time their cadets had participated in an active fire training scenario in about 20 years.
Campbell framed the event as a training opportunity and said he hopes such burns are not needed frequently. The board discussed possible future training locations briefly during the meeting.
