The Cache County Open Space Advisory Committee discussed Item 5 Dec. 1: developing a conservation funding strategy for small parcels and preparing outreach materials for the county council.
Eric (committee member) said he "just got from Debbie that the deadline is mid January," urging the group to prepare a concise staff report and to plan outreach. Members suggested using existing sensitive-land data layers (floodplains, wetlands, species habitat) to identify priority small parcels and discussed a potential county contribution approach for smaller projects (for example, targeting projects under about $50,000 and considering county matches up to 50 percent in some cases).
Committee members supported finalizing a mailed outreach piece in January and set aside roughly $350 for the mailing. Eric said simplifying the council presentation to a single map would make the item easy to present; staff agreed to assemble addresses and materials for the next meeting to "put the final stamp" on the mailer.
The committee agreed to continue refining a dollar-recommendation approach for small parcels during the January meeting and to coordinate with the county’s policy analyst about staff report format and next steps.
