Dustin, the project presenter at the Goldendale council meeting, told the council the waterline project is complete and staff are awaiting the contractor's final release documents. "It's all wrapped up," Dustin said, summarizing the waterline work and next administrative steps.
On the Garland Street and Darling Street project, Dustin reported asphalt has been laid but some curb pieces and catch-basin castings are missing because suppliers have backordered the castings multiple times. He said crews plan to install bases and return for the tops when castings arrive and that the main sidewalk will be deferred until spring. Dustin told the council the intention is to reopen the road before winter even if sidewalk work remains.
Council members questioned whether rolled curbs were appropriate for existing neighborhoods. An unidentified council member said, "I'm not a fan of the rolled curbs," citing access concerns for driveways. Dustin replied that cost differences between rolled and standard curbs are small and that rolled curbs are often preferred in new subdivisions and for snow piling.
What happens next: Public works staff will continue to seek alternate suppliers for castings, install remaining curb and catch basins when materials arrive, and reopen the road for winter use. Final sidewalk work is scheduled for spring, and staff will report further progress at upcoming council meetings.
