Saginaw proclaims World AIDS Day; health center leaders highlight prevention and local services

Mayor Brenda F. Moore read and signed a proclamation designating Dec. 1, 2025, as World AIDS Day in Saginaw and urged residents to participate in remembrance and support activities.
Angela Williams, senior vice president at Great Lakes Bay Health Centers, told the council she helped start the organization’s local clinic in 2006 and described its role in providing prevention, testing, treatment and supportive services so residents do not have to travel to Detroit for care. "Bringing a program such as what we have here to this community has made a significant impact on people living with HIV and AIDS," Williams said.
During remarks tied to the proclamation, a councilmember described pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) as an important prevention tool and encouraged residents to contact Great Lakes Bay Health Centers for information and services, providing the center’s phone number in the meeting record. The council thanked Great Lakes Bay Health Centers for long-term service in the community and for partnerships on prevention and treatment programs.
The proclamation was signed by Mayor Moore and council members and entered into the meeting record as part of the evening’s announcements.
