At its Dec. 1 meeting the Manteno Village Board approved three routine but consequential items by roll call: the purchase of municipal mowing equipment, adoption of the annual tax levy ordinance, and approval of payment of the bills.
The board approved the purchase of a 2026 John Deere 15-75 terrain cut front mower and a 2026 John Deere 72‑inch side‑discharge mower deck for a combined price of $48,066.01 (equipment $43,032.52; deck $5,033.49). Trustee CJ moved for approval and Trustee Crockett seconded; trustees asked clarifying questions about current equipment and intended use. The motion passed on a roll‑call vote with all present voting yes.
The board then considered Ordinance 25‑26, "An ordinance for the levy and assessment of taxes on real property for all purposes of defraying expenses for all corporate purposes for the Village of Manteno, Kankakee County, Illinois," for the fiscal year beginning May 1, 2025 and ending April 30, 2026. Trustee Crockett moved and Trustee Geske seconded; a roll‑call vote approved the ordinance.
Finally, trustees approved payment of bills totaling $175,232.28 (including TIF district amounts). Trustee Berry moved, Trustee Boudreaux seconded, and the roll‑call vote was unanimous in favor. Trustees noted that a large portion ($137,000 referenced during remarks) of the bills covered legally required public‑works comp premium payments.
All three measures passed without recorded opposition. The board scheduled routine committee meetings and additional business for upcoming sessions.
