The Lorain County Board of Commissioners approved an interim memorandum of understanding to allow GoBus service (operated by Hocking Athens Perry Community Action/Barrons Bus) to stop at the Lorain County Transportation and Community Center, 40 East Avenue in Elyria. The MOU will enable various routes connecting Athens, Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati, with stops at the county center twice daily.
Transit staff said the county’s role is limited to allowing the stop and coordinating schedules; the county will not contribute operational dollars. "This is no county dollars," a transit staff member told the commissioners, adding that the service is funded through federal and state dollars. Commissioners and staff discussed fares and connectivity: staff cited an average fare of about $15 and a maximum around $35 depending on mileage, and noted the GoBus service can connect with Greyhound for longer travel.
Commissioner remarks during the vote emphasized marketing and outreach to promote ridership; staff said they will use grant funds for marketing and coordinate with Via (the county’s microtransit vendor) to integrate microtransit and fixed-route services. The MOU was approved without dissent.
