The Indianapolis City-County Council used part of its Dec. 1 agenda to adopt a series of special resolutions recognizing long-serving public employees, businesses and civic organizations.
Proposal 397 honored Stephen Quick for more than four decades with the Department of Public Works and his union leadership; the resolution passed unanimously and Quick thanked the council, noting he represents roughly "about 600 employees" at times and praised the partnership with the council.
Proposal 398 congratulated McAllister Machinery Company on its 80th anniversary and noted the company’s contributions to employment and local investment; a company representative (Chris) thanked the council on behalf of McAllister’s 3,200 employees.
Proposal 399 recognized the Indianapolis Recorder on its 130th anniversary and commended its role in covering Black civic life and training journalists. Robert Chagall, identified in remarks as president and CEO of Recorder Media Group, thanked the council and reflected on the paper's civic mission.
Proposal 400 commended organizations and volunteers that responded to SNAP benefit disruptions in 2025; sponsors said the city coordinated emergency funding and local partners such as Boulevard Place and Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana expanded distribution, and the council recorded unanimous approval.
The council also adopted Proposal 401, declaring Dec. 1, 2025, as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Day at City Hall; representatives described civic-engagement activities associated with "AKA Day" and a Central Region conference expected in April 2026.
Outcome: All special resolutions were adopted by voice vote; honorees and organizational representatives spoke briefly from the podium following the approvals.
