Committee approves three board appointments and reappointments

The Metropolitan and Economic Development Committee voted unanimously Nov. 17 to approve three personnel items on its consent portion of the agenda.
Chair Maggie Lewis (District 5) introduced Proposal 309 to appoint David Baker to the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission. A presenter described Baker— s having served 35 years as the commission—s staff administrator and completing the late Jim Kinley—s term; the committee moved and carried the appointment by voice vote.
The committee next reappointed Cathy Goode (Proposal 311) to the Marion County Property Tax Assessment Board of Appeals. Goode described the board—s role in hearing contested assessments, explained the informal assessor hearing process and confirmed there is no fee to file an appeal. Councilor Jared Evans asked for clarification about how appeals proceed from the assessor—s office to the board; Goode outlined the informal hearing followed by a formal hearing before the board when necessary. The reappointment carried on a voice vote.
Finally, the panel approved Proposal 313 to reappoint a member to the Board of Business and Neighborhood Services; Councilor Brianne Delaney offered a strong personal endorsement. That appointment also passed by unanimous voice vote.
All three items were moved, seconded and approved without public comment. The committee advanced routine confirmations that return to the full council for any further procedural steps as required.
