The Village of Addison approved a one-year lease with Flock Group Incorporated for six additional license-plate-reader units at a cost of $19,996, using funds from a $20,000 Illinois Attorney General retail-theft grant.
Public-safety staff told the committee the grant permits purchasing license-plate-reader equipment, that the village has used similar technology for nearly seven years and that the tools are a significant crime-solving aid. Staff said the village would seek renewal of the same grant next year and requested a waiver of formal bidding to maintain compatibility with existing systems and databases.
On data-sharing, staff stated the village does not share LPR data with federal agencies and limits sharing to local law enforcement and, in some cases, agencies in immediately surrounding states. Committee members had no additional questions and voted to approve the lease and the bid waiver.
The village said it will use the grant this year to add six cameras to its inventory and will continue to seek renewal of the grant to maintain the expanded system.
