Sue Reiman, a resident of Cobblestone Bend and member of the subdivision homeowners association, told the McHenry County Planning, Environment & Development Committee on Dec. 2 that neighbors are not opposed to the proposed GLSG Solutions business but worry about how the site is being presented and how it will affect their subdivision.

"We're not opposed to having businesses, but we just want it not to take away from what we've worked at in our subdivision to keep it a nice place to live," Reiman said during the public-comment period, citing a desire for the same kind of berming and screening used by neighboring Schroeder Asphalt.

Reiman said residents are especially concerned about the proposed site's entrance on Highway 20, saying she expects many heavy trucks to turn into the property and that the roadway and approach grade could make turning movements difficult. She also said the neighborhood used to be quieter and is increasingly affected by traffic.

The comment was framed as a request for the county to consider presentation and site-design details — not an objection to the business itself — and to make sure future developments along Highway 20 include appropriate screening, setbacks or mitigation. Committee members acknowledged Reiman's concerns and noted they will consider neighborhood impacts when staff brings zoning and site-plan materials forward.

No formal action was taken during the public-comment period; the committee moved on to scheduled interviews and staff reports.

The public comment began during the meeting's public-comment portion and concluded without a request for an immediate vote; staff and members indicated the permitting and zoning review process will be the forum to vet entrance design, buffers and traffic-safety measures.
