The Village of Addison approved sign-ordinance variances Dec. 1 for Access A to Z Family Health Center, allowing two signs of about 6.75 square feet and permitting a business logo on a directional sign at 721 West Lake Street, Unit 202.
Barry Gustafson, representing Access Community Health Network, told the board the medical center serves underserved patients and that the building’s configuration — seven tenants, a single shared entrance and confusing access from Lake Street and 4th Avenue — makes wayfinding difficult. Gustafson said clearer signage is a public-safety measure because drivers unfamiliar with the site could make unsafe maneuvers when entering parking areas.
Staff and the Commercial/Industrial Commission recommended approval, citing the site’s unique hardship and traffic-flow constraints. Staff noted the request is limited to this site and does not set a broad precedent for logos on directional signs.
The board approved the requested variations after the public hearing; no audience testimony for or against was offered. The approved variations will be implemented through the village’s standard permitting process.
