Elkhart council rezones 2432 Bypass Road to allow car sales, diner (8–0)

Applicant Jamie Fink told the council that the property had been rezoned previously for medical use and that the current proposal would "rezone it so that we can sell cars out of it again." Fink said one tenant plans to open a car lot and another a 1950s-themed diner. Planning Commission approval for rezoning was noted by staff.
Council members had brief discussion about ownership and the intended uses; no members of the public spoke during the hearing. The ordinance passed on second reading and was later approved on third and final reading by roll-call vote, recorded as 8–0.
The rezoning decision removes the current restriction preventing car-sales operations at the address and allows the applicants to proceed with tenant plans subject to permitting and other standard city approvals.
