At the Nov. 4 Anderson City Parks Board meeting, maintenance staff outlined completed and upcoming capital projects, including a bid award for public restrooms, holiday installations and a newly ordered stage.
Tom Tackett, maintenance superintendent, said the Meadowbrook Park playground installation finished in 2½ weeks, ahead of the projected three weeks. He told the board bids were received for new public restrooms at Warren Miller and that the low bidder, Frederick's, was awarded the contract; a pre‑construction meeting is scheduled for Thursday.
Tackett described holiday preparations at Dickman Town Center and Meridian: subfloor frames and some deck boards for the skate rink are in place, the Santa House has been moved in with power and heating, and tree lighting is underway. "We will have that ready and open up the day after Thanksgiving," Tackett said, with operations running through January and completion by early February.
Board members asked about the rink's durability; Tackett said the surface is durable, they flip and clean it year to year and repair sideboards as needed.
The board also discussed a newly ordered Stage Line stage. Staff said the Board of Works ordered the stage for city use and that training for setup is scheduled in early December. Board members discussed setting a rental fee and agreed to retain the old stage for uses where the new unit is not appropriate. During the discussion a member said 'Leah and the CDBG' would fund Meadowbrook and the Board of Works would pay for the stage after a trade of responsibilities, but the meeting did not record an exact funding breakdown.
No formal board vote on the stage purchase was recorded in the meeting minutes excerpt; officials described the order and a delivery timeframe. Staff said they would circulate photos of the stage and follow up on rental fee proposals at a subsequent meeting.
The board did award the Warren Miller restroom contract to Frederick's and will move forward with pre‑construction planning.
