The Fort Wayne regulations committee on Oct. 14 moved five items forward, recommending passage of an array of zoning and right‑of‑way changes intended to clear the way for redevelopment across several neighborhoods.
Councilwoman Chambers introduced the package and invited Planning staff to summarize each petition. Michelle Wood of the Department of Planning Services described the Pinehurst Drive right‑of‑way vacation as the removal of undeveloped remainder ROW adjacent to the former Lakeside Golf Course to allow wetlands and riparian habitat work; NIPSCO held the sole recorded easement. The committee voted to recommend the vacation.
On zoning map amendments, staff described a rezoning at 2046 South Lafayette to I‑2 for Doolittle Electric to bring the company's yard and storage into a single zoning designation; a rezoning at 1830 East DuPont to C‑1 to permit a medical office and conform to corridor development; and two South Anthony rezonings: 6814 South Anthony to C‑2 to permit a halal grocery (applicant offered written commitments addressing fencing and full‑cutoff lighting to screen and buffer adjacent homes) and 6116 South Anthony to C‑3 limited commercial to permit a warehouse and storage facility with a written commitment striking many C‑3 uses while retaining food‑supply and wholesale functions.
Planning staff said the Planning Commission recommended each item by an 8–0 vote. Committee members asked about neighbor comments on screening, lighting and traffic for the South Anthony proposals and heard that applicants offered written commitments addressing those concerns. Each item was moved and seconded in committee, and the clerk recorded do‑pass recommendations (most at 8–0).
What’s next: The rezoning and vacation ordinances advanced from committee and were placed on the council agenda for passage.
