Commission OKs $40,000 for Glen Miller Park improvement plan

The Richmond Redevelopment Commission approved a $40,000 request Oct. 21 to fund a focused Glen Miller Park improvement plan.
Denise Retz, park superintendent, described the park as the city’s regional flagship and enumerated capital and maintenance needs: aging roofs on park buildings, ADA improvements, dredging of the park pond, restoration needs at the Charles House and a deteriorating playground and splash pad installed in 1999. Retz said the plan would be “a community driven plan, data driven plan, and project and funding driven” to help prioritize projects and pursue funding opportunities.
Commissioners asked how the parks track progress on plans and whether the public can see checklists. Retz said the city hosts plans at RichmondRising.com and that planned bond measures and grant applications would allow the department to check off projects as funds become available.
The commission approved Resolution 17‑20‑25 by voice vote. Retz said the plan will position the city to pursue programs such as the Outdoor Legacy Partnership, a $5 million matching program, and to leverage future bonds or grants for implementation.
