Board approves ride-alongs, testing contract, supplies purchase, vehicle purchase and demolition contract

The Richmond City Board of Public Works approved multiple contracts and related administrative actions during its Oct. 16 meeting.
Chief Kendrick of the Richmond Fire Department presented Contract No. 149-2025 with Ivy Tech Community College, an agreement that allows the fire department to provide facilities and ride-along experiences for Ivy Tech students. The board approved the contract and separately authorized the president to sign the agreement.
Chief Kendrick also requested approval of Contract No. 151-2025 with Testing for Public Safety LLC to provide pre-employment testing for recruits. Kendrick described the annual cost as approximately "$2 to 4,000 annually depending on the number of applicants." The board approved the contract.
The fire department requested Contract No. 153-2025 with Centas Corporation to supply towels, mats and related services under the state purchasing agreement (quote 8229); the board approved that contract.
Tracy Bozell of the Richmond Street Department presented Contract No. 156-2025 with Wetzel Auto to purchase a Ford F-350 chassis and service body for $79,499.76, which she said was the lowest and best bid. The board approved the purchase.
Bill Henry of Code Enforcement presented Contract No. 159-2025 to B & B Construction for demolition and cleanup of a garage, asking approval for a not-to-exceed amount of $6,590. He stated the board received two bids, Cox Excavating for $8,950 and B & B for $6,590; the board approved the contract. A board member asked how staff monitor boarded or demolished properties and whether owners have a set period to repair. Henry said staff monitor properties and, if after about "4 or 5 months" no work has occurred, the city initiates unsafe-building procedures through the unsafe buildings commission.
Each of the contracts was moved, seconded and recorded as approved in the meeting transcript. The transcript does not contain a full roll call for each vote; motions were announced as carried after members responded "aye."
