Rolling Hills Estates commissioners heard staff introductions and scheduled the next meeting and a field trip at a brief session that focused on personnel updates.
Benjamin Johnson, introduced by staff as a new hire, told the body, "My role here with the city is I am our code compliance officer and planning technician," and described duties that include handling resident complaints about possible municipal-code violations, meeting homeowners and renters to resolve disputes and processing construction and demolition permits. He said one recent code case was closed in under a month and that he is working on a project he expects to bring before the commission in January at "26 Caballeros."
The hires provide additional capacity for permit review and code enforcement in Rolling Hills Estates, staff said. Emma Montez, also introduced as a recent addition to city staff, said she recently graduated from the University of Southern California and has been on the job about a week; staff noted she will appear more often at upcoming items and referenced an item on Jan. 20 described in the meeting as "for 3 Mavericks."
Commissioners and staff offered brief welcomes to both new employees. No ordinances, motions or votes were recorded in the transcript during this portion of the meeting. The meeting was then adjourned: "Well, if that's it, then I am adjourning this meeting till 01/20/2026 at 07:30 for a field trip somewhere," said the chair. The transcript does not record a vote on the adjournment.
The commission did not take formal legislative action during this meeting; the next stated step in the transcript is that Johnson may present the 26 Caballeros item to the body in January and the commission will meet on Jan. 20, 2026, at 7:30 a.m. for a field trip.
