The Santaquin City Council voted Dec. 2 to adopt a resolution allowing the city to participate in the national America250 sesquicentennial commemoration and to form a five‑member advisory committee to recommend local events.

City staff explained the resolution would permit Santaquin to coordinate with county and state America250 efforts and could make the city eligible for modest event funding. Staff recommended a committee of three members drawn from the Community Services board and two members from the Historic Preservation Committee to avoid creating a quorum of either recommending body.

The mayor called the resolution a straightforward step to join regional celebrations. A council member moved to adopt resolution 12‑02; the motion was seconded and passed with recorded 'Aye' votes from councilmembers in attendance.

The committee will be advisory; significant event plans would be expected to come back to the council for approval and any budgetary commitments. Staff estimated potential funding for a local activity would be small and noted the city could decline any offered funds if council preferred not to pursue a local event.

No fiscal appropriation was made at the meeting; council action authorized participation and the committee’s formation, not specific events or expenditures.
