Springfield — The City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved acceptance of an Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA) grant totaling $2,902,213 to support co-responder programs and authorized a supplemental appropriation for the Springfield Police Department.
The measure, introduced as ordinance 2025-516 and presented for emergency passage, drew no substantive debate and was adopted by voice vote following a motion and second. Council members said the grant will fund programs pairing police with mental-health and social-service responders to better address behavioral-health calls.
The ordinance was moved, seconded and approved by a recorded vote of 10–0. City staff offered to make Chief Beal available for questions but no further discussion was requested by council members.
