Commission confirms appointments and swears in new and promoted police staff

At the Dec. 1 meeting the commission confirmed multiple appointments and recognized police staffing changes.
Steven Sweeney was appointed as an alternate member of the Design Review Board to serve the remainder of a three-year term (expiring Sept. 25, 2028). Celeste Herpel was appointed as an alternate to the Environmental Sustainability Committee through Feb. 1, 2027; she described work in transportation aerodynamics and prior EPA task-force participation. Tim Baldwin was appointed to the Birmingham Triangle District Corridor Improvement Authority for a three-year term expiring Dec. 15, 2028.
Police Chief Scott Drewy introduced two recently hired officers (Spencer Buckman and Kayla Wachel) and announced promotions for Sergeant Chris Bukowski and Lieutenant David Buttigieg. The new officers and promoted staff were sworn in and the chief invited commissioners and staff to a small reception.
These personnel actions were approved by voice vote during the meeting and the commission recessed briefly for swearing-in and introductions.
