The Farmington Public Schools Board of Education adopted six policy updates on Dec. 2, approving recommendations from the board governance committee and the district s legal advisor, Miller Johnson, and waiving the second reading.
The policy package included amended language for policy 6002 (safety and security), revised policy 2003 (education records and directory information), and a revision to policy 2002 (learning and achievement). The board also approved three policies that are new to the district: policy 4003 (employee salary schedule/conditions of employment) and policy 6014 (facility dog usage), among others noted in the packet.
Trustee discussion and process: Vice President Walker summarized the six policies and moved to adopt the governance committee s recommendations as presented; the motion was supported by Trustee Hall and approved by roll-call vote. Trustee Heinrich and others asked clarifying questions during the briefing, but no amendments were proposed at the meeting.
Why it matters: The adopted policies alter how the district documents safety/security expectations, manages directory information and education records, and adds formal guidance for the use of facility dogs and an employee-salary schedule framework. Trustees said the updates align with committee review and prior work with counsel.
Outcome: Motion passed by roll-call vote; the board recorded affirmative votes and the policy changes will be incorporated into district policy documents going forward.
