Commissioner Jimenez outlined plans to host a health fair at Esperanza Park on Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., saying he met with Dr. Hecker and expects Desert Healthcare District to provide two mobile clinics and several specialists including ophthalmology and dental services.
Commissioner Jimenez summarized the city’s anticipated role: providing chairs, tables and canopies if needed, and coordinating scheduling so the event does not conflict with park closures or other events. "The only requirement for the city is...to provide...some chairs, some tables, and some other canopy," he said.
Staff involvement and next steps: staff asked Jimenez to submit a short staff report with specifics (time, vendor list, volunteer needs and any funding requests) so the commission can place the matter on a future agenda; any funding request would require City Council approval. Commissioners discussed complementary features such as a pet adoption clinic, local-business participation for food or refreshments, and volunteer staffing.
No formal action: the item was for discussion only and clerks recorded no public comments. Commissioners agreed to bring a staff report and flyers to the next meeting for commission consideration and, if no city funding is required, to move forward without additional council approval.
The commission also discussed subcommittee roles and volunteer outreach to ready the event for early spring.
