City staff used their Dec. 2 reports to announce several operational items for the winter and coming year.
Parks Director Miss Pastor said the city was awarded a day‑of‑service grant to pay for construction of a fence along the nature trail at Waterworth Memorial Park. She also described an Eagle Scout project that will install 12 owl nesting boxes (six boxes and two slings among four owl species) and include night‑vision cameras for live streaming of nests to a link the city will post on its website: “Yesterday, I found out that we were awarded a day of service grant,” she said.
Safety Service Director Mister Capizello reported that street crews responded to the first snowfall and that leaf collection will be delayed a few days. He announced Columbia Gas will begin a major line replacement on Jennings Avenue in January — approximately 9,100 linear feet of main, including Jennings and nearby 8th–10th streets and some cross streets — and estimated the work will take three to four months.
Capizello also reminded residents of the chamber Christmas parade scheduled for Thursday, with tree lighting at the gazebo and a Santa appearance. Volunteers, including Jen Brown and her organization, helped decorate the plaza, he said.
Those items were presented as informational staff reports; no council action was required or taken during the meeting.
