During the public-comment portion of Wayne’s Dec. 2 council meeting, a representative of Recovery Action Network described the nonprofit’s local programs, school partnerships and community outreach.
The speaker, who did not give a personal name, said the organization represents Recovery Action Network at the corner of Michigan and Wayne Road and reported the group is “finally after much ado getting up to full speed.” The representative said Recovery Action Network offers multiple programs, including anonymous classes about marijuana and substance effects and services for eating disorders, and is operating from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
The speaker told council members the group has been in talks with Canton schools about an alternative-to-suspension program for vaping and has been in discussions with Wayne-Westland Schools about bringing similar programs to that district. The representative also said Recovery Action Network has worked in Livonia schools this year and is pursuing mentorship and other supports for students.
The speaker offered to share materials with council members and said the group will meet with the chief to discuss collaboration and hopes to help local residents during the holiday season.
No council action was recorded on the matter; the comments were entered during the non-agenda public-comment period.
