Salt Lake City School District staff provided the board with annual training on the School LAND Trust program at the Dec. 2 meeting, outlining how trust distributions are calculated, duties of school community councils (SCCs) and the board's role in reviewing final reports.
Christine Marriott, director of Title I and school improvement, and area director Kenny Auld reviewed the distribution formula (10% base divided among districts plus 90% per-pupil allocation), noted the district's 2025–26 allocation ($3,010,489), and described the timeline for the upcoming cycle: principals will begin plan development mid-December; final reports from last year's plans will be available Feb. 3 for board review and the district will seek board approval of new plans by May 5 to meet the state's May 15 deadline.
Staff also described proposed reviewer assignments (two board reviewers per school) and the adapted state review form the district plans to use. Board members asked for clearer documentation of board reviews and uniform consideration of subgroup impacts; staff said the final reports will be posted for brief feedback windows and that principals can submit amendments for significant plan changes.
The board moved the strategic plan materials and the School LAND Trust items to action for formal consideration in January/February per the posted agenda.
