Council approves multiple routine items; several contract and land actions carried

At its March 7 meeting the Superior Common Council approved a slate of routine and consent items including contracts, awards and appointments.
Key approvals included a fixed-base operator agreement with Skydive Duluth Superior LLC for use of the Richard I. Bong Airport at $500 annually; endorsement of Earthrider Brewing LLC's application to a Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation community program for the Lehman Mercantile building; an engineering services award to Donnie Hu & Associates for Newton Creek and Nelson Creek trunk sewer work ($110,390 with optional additional services up to $88,400); and a temporary waiver of the pesticide ordinance to treat vegetation on the Newton Creek trunk sewer effective immediately through June 30, 2017. The council also approved Mayor Hagen’s appointment of Katie Noomi Pearl to the Business Improvement District board (three-year term through Dec. 2019), a cooperation agreement tied to the Zenith Landmark LLC/Earth Rider Brewing project, and a land transfer of property at Grand Avenue/North 13th/Weeks Avenue to the redevelopment authority.
Later in the agenda the council adopted a traffic-code ordinance adjusting speed limits on Barton Avenue and a planning ordinance amending rules for interior unit self‑service storage facilities. The meeting adjourned after council action on these items.
