Superior council accepts airport improvement petition to pursue BOA/FAA funding

The Common Council accepted a petition from the City of Superior to the Wisconsin Bureau of Aeronautics (BOA) requesting airport improvement consideration and eligibility for state and federal funding. Director Todd Janigo of City of Superior Public Works outlined the process as statutorily required and described the petition as a three-year wish list of potential projects that makes the airport eligible for BOA and FAA consideration.
Janigo listed proposed items that could be included for funding consideration: a refurbished automated weather observation system (AWOS), crack sealing and seal coat for airport pavements and pavement markings, land acquisition and approach protection improvements, runway approach clearing and maintenance, construction of parallel and connector taxiways, development of public-use aircraft storage hangars, installation of an approach lighting system, rehabilitation of Runways 422 and 1432 (including lighting), procurement of snow removal and mowing equipment, and development of additional hangar areas and access taxiways. He said the public may submit comments through Dec. 1 to City of Superior Public Works (Todd Janigo).
No members of the public spoke during the hearing. Councilor Dalbec moved to close the public hearing and accept the recommendation; Councilor Bender seconded the motion, which passed by voice vote.
