Council honors Gus's Deli on 50th anniversary; recognizes veterans and library events

The council opened its Nov. 18 meeting with community recognitions. Mayor and council members presented Gus’s Deli Barbecue and Grill with a 50‑year recognition, praising the restaurant’s community donations and local ties. "For 50 years, Gus' has been part of what makes Paramount feel like home," the mayor said. Owner Gus thanked the council and said he hopes to return next year.
The council also recognized November as National Family Literacy Month and invited families to "Storytime with the Mayor" on Nov. 19; Andrea Crow, manager of the Paramount Library, accepted the proclamation and encouraged residents to participate. Separately, the council presented Boulevard of Heroes banners to families of Michelle and Yennefer Jurate Madrid, who will join the U.S. Navy.
These items were ceremonial recognitions and required no council action beyond proclamations and photographs.
