Commissioner (Speaker 3) reported that the Top of the Hill Festival is Saturday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and that the city will staff a table with a QR code linking to the commission's survey to gather community input ahead of the Nov. 9 retreat.
Commissioners asked whether hard copies of the survey would be available for people who are not comfortable with QR codes. Staff confirmed paper copies can be provided. Commissioner (Speaker 4) requested the survey be translated into Tagalog and Spanish; staff said the city manager’s office has translators who can assist.
Commissioners discussed survey design to boost response rates: keeping the email question optional (and not marked required), including a Daly City residency question to prioritize local input, and using dropdown or bubble-style response options rather than many open-ended questions for clearer results. One commissioner suggested keeping the Daly City resident field so the commission can prioritize local responses while still allowing nonresidents to participate.
Logistics for the festival were reviewed: commissioners discussed staffing and volunteer availability, noted that the festival route has expanded down Mission Street, and confirmed shuttle parking and rotations from Jefferson High School and City Hall for attendees.
Staff said they will provide a QR code, make paper copies available, arrange translation support, and adjust required fields on the online form per the commission’s preferences. The commission encouraged members who will attend to volunteer at the table and collect responses that can feed into retreat planning.
