Albany County held a public hearing on a proposed local law that would require motor vehicles to maintain a minimum passing distance of 3 feet when passing pedestrians or bicyclists.

When Item 2 was called, the clerk identified the matter as 'Local Law number t for 2024,' an amendment to chapter 288 of the Albany County Code to establish a minimum passing distance. 'Mister Pline' was introduced and spoke briefly to explain the measure's purpose: "This just requires... passing vehicles keep 3 feet," he said. The clerk noted the language was revised that day and that sponsor confirmations were still pending.

Because the language was still being finalized, the board voted to amend the hearing date associated with the item to Jan. 27. A member moved to amend the date, the motion was seconded by Patricia, and the amendment carried on a voice vote with 'Aye' recorded.

The item remained on the agenda for further action at a later date once sponsor confirmations and finalized language are available.
