The Ada County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 21 endorsed a proclamation supporting America250 in Idaho, a statewide commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. A commissioner read the proclamation, which cites Governor Brad Little’s July 2024 proclamation and authorizes county participation and an ambassador to coordinate local efforts.

County staff described planned activities tied to the endorsement: red, white and blue perimeter lighting for the courthouse; themed plantings; a large lobby banner; a traveling kiosk or exhibition to visit county facilities; articles in the county newsletter; and an employee photo and signature campaign intended to feed into a statewide scroll to be displayed in the state Capitol.

Commissioners praised the outreach plan and encouraged employees and residents to read the Declaration of Independence as part of the commemoration. The board approved the proclamation by voice vote and directed staff to publicize the events in the December county newsletter and to coordinate employee participation.

What’s next: staff will finalize event dates and promotional materials for the county newsletter and coordinate inclusion of county employee signatures with the state advisory council.
