Amanda (staff), speaking at the Dec. 1 Angola City Council meeting, said the city applied for $1,000,000 in Community Crossing funds for 2026 and "we got awarded 234,000," which staff said will cover roughly one street.
Amanda said recent construction work totaled about $1,700,000 and that the $234,000 award is a smaller share of what local projects require. "So that's how much construction we have on the books for 2026," she said, noting the city will need to consider other funding tools to bridge gaps.
Unidentified Speaker 3 and other council members discussed potential responses, including re-examining a wheel tax and other revenue measures. "We may wanna get some very serious consideration to what we do and how we fund our road improvements," the unidentified speaker said, adding that the city is developing a financial package and that staff will share version 1 of a plan with the council soon.
The meeting also included a council discussion about statewide funding shifts that speakers characterized as reducing local income tax revenue; no policy decision or new revenue measure was adopted at the session. Staff said they will return with a financial plan and next steps for council review.
