Mister Herrera told the board the West Valley School Safety Preparedness Consortium held a large exercise Sept. 24 and that the district ran a reunification drill that morning to test logistics for reuniting students with parents during an emergency. Goodyear—s emergency manager, Brian Woodard, summarized the cross-agency planning efforts and said the exercise was the culmination of months of preparation, involving fire, police and other partners to build resiliency.
Separately, the union/academy representative debriefed the Freshman Career Expo, saying more than 2,600 freshmen attended and more than 80 partners including industry, postsecondary and municipal partners participated; Phoenix Raceway donated venue space and transportation coordination required roughly 25 buses. The presenter said the event aims to introduce freshmen to career pathways before they select pathways in January.
Board members praised both efforts, noting the value of interagency coordination for safety and the role of employer partners in exposing students to career opportunities.
