Ada County approves application for federal grant to buy refrigerated trailer, modular cold-storage units for coroner

The Ada County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 14 authorized the coroner’s office to apply for a federal grant to purchase a 17-foot refrigerated trailer and two modular refrigerated cubes intended to improve surge and scaled-response capacity.
A coroner’s office representative (Speaker 3) told the board the current smaller tow-behind trailer is nearing the end of its service life and that replacing it would “ensure that we maintain a state of readiness and ability to respond to any mass fatality or surge event.” The project would not require a county match and, according to the coroner’s office, reporting and maintenance would be handled within the office’s existing budget.
The board voted to authorize electronic completion and submission of grant 2511-A by Coroner Rich Riffle. Board discussion noted the application window is competitive and that accreditation and demonstrated regional coverage strengthen the county’s application. The board recorded the motion as carried.
