Board hears facilities master‑plan update and supports proposed historical marker for South French Broad site

The leadership team (staff and principals) will meet monthly and preliminary findings are expected in early 2026; community engagement plans and a website will be launched to share updates.
Separately, staff described a request from South French Broad alumni to install a historical marker recognizing the school's history and its role during integration. Board members welcomed the proposal and asked staff to work with alumni and students on marker text and to identify funding sources; superintendent’s office said it would pursue funding and bring installation details back for formal approval.
Staff also noted upcoming capital items including a planned demolition at a high school campus and chiller replacement quotes to be brought to the board when contractors are selected.
What’s next: staff will continue technical reviews, prepare community‑engagement plans and return preliminary master‑plan findings to the board. The historical‑marker proposal will be developed with alumni and students and brought back when funding and placement details are ready.
