Appoquinimink reports 61‑student enrollment gain and nearly 11‑unit increase after Sept. 30 count

At the Oct. 7 meeting the district presented its official Sept. 30 student enrollment verification. Richard Small said the Appoquinimink School District's Division I unit calculation came to 1,046.83 units, up 10.97 units from last year—s 1,035.86 units, representing a net increase of 61 students.
Small explained units are computed from standard units plus special education and vocational allocations; the rise in special education classifications was the primary reason unit growth exceeded the raw student increase. Board members thanked the enrollment team, noted the role of a new system (Ed Insights) in the process, and connected the increase to staffing pressures: the superintendent had earlier reported 32 teacher vacancies and 11 paraprofessional vacancies, many in special programs.
The district credited a team effort from building secretaries, principals and central office staff for an accurate count and said unit results will be used to finalize staffing/unit allocations for the year.
