Council highlights Sheets Family Park, cemetery tours and youth visitors

Council took time for community updates: students from Trine University and the Indiana Youth and Government program introduced themselves and were thanked by the mayor for touring city water and wastewater facilities.
Community coordinator Allison Baglow and the Historic Preservation Commission reported a sold‑out three‑day historic cemetery tour at Circle Hill Cemetery with more than 120 attendees; trustees, theater students and Main Street partners assisted with the event.
Staff provided a construction and operations update on Sheets Family Park. The project is fully funded and includes an endowment held by the foundation for future maintenance. Because winter is approaching, staff are winterizing restrooms and will provide portable restrooms when the site is used; the flagpole base is expected to be poured before frost and the park will proceed through punch‑list items before an opening is scheduled. The park will be highlighted at an upcoming Indiana Park and Recreation Association meeting. The council also noted the city’s new salt building is complete and staff training on the mechanical lift is planned.
