Summary
The commission approved a final $8,009.26 payment for the Atchison sports complex batting cages, adopted a resolution canceling stale checks totaling $881.34 under KSA 10-8,115, and received the September EMS report (219 calls). Votes were unanimous.
At the Oct. 21 meeting the Atchison County Commission approved several consent and finance items including final project payment, administrative cleanup of old checks, and receipt of the EMS monthly report.
Finance director Mark Ziltner asked the board to approve the final payment of $8,009.26 to Grand Slam Safety (listed on agenda as "Grama Slam Safety") for completion of batting cages at the Atchison sports complex; the payment was approved by voice vote. Ziltner reported that the Atchison site allocation is now exhausted and the Effingham site retains about $35,002.19 for future projects.
Ziltner also presented a resolution to cancel and void outstanding checks older than two years, citing state authority (KSA 10-8,115). The attachment lists checks totaling $881.34; the commission adopted the resolution 3-0. The board received and filed the September EMS report showing 153 9-1-1 responses, 56 transfers and 10 standbys/other calls for a total of 219 calls for the month.
Separately, solid waste staff said they received a used backhoe quote of $85,000 from Murphy Tractor and are awaiting additional options; current equipment is operational but staff flagged the risk of future breakdowns.
Next steps: payments and resolutions executed as approved; staff to track capital allocations and pursue procurement options for the backhoe.
