Maintenance update: dredger project out to bid; Singer cafeteria had fire-retardant cartridge rupture

District facilities staff and board members provided a building and grounds update on Oct. 6 that covered current construction, maintenance progress and work-order management.
The Dredger High project is out for bid and is scheduled to return to the board in November. Staff said they expect AC and other system bids in November or December. The South Bogart complex recently hosted its first home game and is roughly 85% complete, and Maryville's bus ramp work was completed, raised one foot, sealed and painted.
Staff reported an operational setback at Singer: a vent-hood cartridge seal ruptured, spraying the cafeteria area with fire retardant and slowing punch-list completion. The restroom extension and parking lot work at Singer continue; staff said they have spoken to the contractor and expect work to accelerate.
Maintenance staff provided work-order metrics: 353 total work orders, 326 closed and 27 remaining open. Staff described efforts to prioritize work orders, group jobs by school to reduce travel, and replace repeatedly repaired units rather than continuing temporary fixes. One staff member estimated that, with quotes in hand, some projects could be completed by Thanksgiving if weather cooperates.
The committee meeting adjourned after the maintenance update; no further action on the maintenance items was recorded.
