DeRidder alternative program awarded 'exemplary' status, principal says

Harry [last name redacted], principal of the Borgard Alternative Program (BAP) in Beauregard Parish, told the school board on Nov. 13 that an Oct. 7 evaluation by Terron Perry, an education consultant with the Office of Career and College Readiness at the Louisiana Department of Education, awarded BAP "exemplary status" among alternative education sites.
"Due to the dedication of our staff and the unwavering support of our district leaders, BAP has been awarded exemplary status for alternative education sites," Harry said. He described the recognition as placing BAP "among the top tier of alternative education programs in Louisiana" and said staff are developing strategies to sustain success while continuing to improve instructional quality.
Harry said one recommendation from the evaluation was to move BAP to Carver and incorporate career and technical education (CTE) transition opportunities so students in alternative programs have access to industry-based classes. He said the evaluation team "found out we were going to try to merge funding" and viewed planned funding alignments positively.
Superintendent and other board members thanked Harry for the report. The board did not take formal action beyond receiving the superintendent’s report and congratulating staff.
Next steps: District staff said they will continue planning around evaluator recommendations; no implementation timeline or funding action was recorded at the Nov. 13 meeting.
