Braintree council highlights food drives, Project Bread hotline and holiday market

Councilors used the Nov. 5 meeting to relay several community-service announcements and events.
Councilor Quilty asked residents to support the Marge Crispin Center's Thanksgiving food-basket drive; the center's goal is 200 baskets, with each basket estimated at about $100 and containing a turkey and all fixings. Quilty provided a mailing address for checks (Marge Crispin Center, 46 Lincoln Street, Braintree) and said online donations are accepted.
Councilor Bridal reminded residents about SNAP benefit changes and shared Project Bread's hotline for any Massachusetts resident seeking food assistance. He also said town hall is collecting cereal this week and announced the Braintree Farmers Market's holiday market on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Councilor Angus congratulated the high school girls soccer team on a 5-0 playoff win and noted their next game Nov. 8.
Council Maglio promoted the East Braintree Community Action Coalition annual meeting on Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Braintree Yacht Club. Mayor Joyce and other councilors also encouraged attendance at the town's Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11 and the high school choir's performance.
These announcements were informational; the council held no formal votes related to the events.
