Bay County approves bond plan for Road Commission storage and truck-wash after $10M estimate

The Bay County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 7 approved a resolution authorizing Michigan Transportation Fund bonds to fund a Road Commission storage facility and truck wash after a presentation from the Road Commission’s engineer-manager.
Jim Lolo, Bay County Road Commission engineer-manager, told commissioners the project includes roughly 42,000 square feet of indoor storage for equipment and pickup trucks and a drive-through truck wash intended to extend equipment life. "The estimated cost came back $10,000,006.48," Lolo said, and he added that "as of the 24th, the building price went up $300,000." He also said the county expects about $5,300,000 more in state funding next year.
Commissioners asked about the proposed uses of the bond money and the Road Commission’s capacity to make bond payments. Lolo said the timing of increased state allocations made the financing and debt service manageable and that the facility would allow more routine maintenance of equipment, extending asset life.
After the presentation the board moved and approved the bond resolution by voice vote. The resolution authorizes issuance of Michigan Transportation Fund Bonds series 2025 to provide financing for the Road Commission project; the motion carried without recorded roll-call dissent.
The next procedural steps are financing closeout and project procurement; the Road Commission will proceed with design and construction planning under the authority granted by the bond resolution.
