Atchison County awards Ottawa Road Phase 3 contract; Bridge 290 remains on schedule

Atchison County commissioners voted Oct. 28 to award a two‑mile contract for Ottawa Road Phase 3 to King's Construction, accepting Road and Bridge Superintendent Joe Snyder's recommendation.
Snyder told the board that bids were opened Oct. 7. The county’s engineered estimate for the two‑mile segment was about $1,143,550.02; King's Construction submitted the low bid of $1,220,218.72, with Weaver Construction and McEnany Construction submitting higher bids. The board moved, seconded and approved the award by voice vote.
Snyder also provided an update on Bridge 290 north of town, reporting two piers poured and piling being driven; contractors expect to complete the bridge structure before winter and to finish asphalt work when plants reopen in spring.
The contract paperwork was presented for signature and construction is scheduled to begin after completion of the currently active two‑mile segment, with culvert deliveries arriving shortly.
