Ag Fair committee members reviewed the 2025 fair highlights at the Alleghany County commissioners meeting, emphasizing high exhibit participation, youth livestock entries and community volunteer contributions.
Presenters said more than 1,000 exhibits were entered and youth livestock shows included 361 entries from more than 100 youth across several age groups. The committee credited volunteers, student helpers and sponsors — including local businesses and tourism partners — with making the event possible.
On finances, the committee reported most categories were under budget, but the committee purchased extra insurance after damage from Hurricane Helene the prior year. Presenters said estimated actual expenses were approximately $110,000 with one outstanding invoice that could bring total expense projections closer to $114,000 against a previously projected budget near $116,000; reported income to date was about $111,592 versus a previously projected $140,000. Sponsorship revenue totaled about $52,000 from roughly 55 donors.
Committee members described popular programming such as a PBS-hosted children’s tent with interactive STEM stations, a truck‑and‑tractor pull, music headline acts and a VIP seating area. Organizers said educational programming and free tickets for certain grades helped drive family attendance.
Commissioners thanked volunteers and committee members for the event and noted the fair’s role in local culture and tourism.
