Council authorizes workers' compensation plan participation and interim legal services

In a pair of administrative actions Dec. 2, the Half Moon Bay City Council took two unanimous votes:
Workers' compensation: Staff presented options after the Citi’s Group announced it would dissolve at year end. Staff recommended joining the Pooled Liability Assurance Network (Plan JPA) workers' compensation program for administrative continuity and risk-management reliability. Council authorized the city manager to execute required documents and approved a $24,000 budget adjustment to cover initial costs.
Interim city attorney services: After a public RFP and interviews, staff recommended Burke, Williams & Sorensen LLP to provide interim city attorney services. Council authorized the mayor and vice mayor to finalize and execute a six-month interim legal-services agreement with an option to convert to a permanent appointment; the roll-call vote was unanimous.
Both measures were described by staff as routine administrative steps to maintain continuity of city operations and risk coverage; council discussion focused on prudence, provider stability and contract terms.
